Hot Oil Units

Hot oil units (also known as hot oilers or heater treaters) have been in North America for over sixty years, with a few thousand units in service today. The original purpose of a hot oil unit was to clean out wellbores by heating and pumping hot oil down the annulus, returning up the tubing and back down the flowline. The hot oiling operation reduces and eliminates wax/paraffin buildup. With the different components on these units, there are multiple functions other than hot oiling which include, but are not limited to:

  • Pumping hot oil through coiled tubing to clean out waxed off tubing or by pumping down annulus through a circulating valve

  • Cleaning out tubulars prior to a work-over

  • Cleaning out wax or other material in pipelines

  • Cleaning out surface facilities prior to a turnaround inspection

  • Cleaning out tanks around rigs

  • Heating water, oil or frac fluids for well stimulation or fracturization

  • Thawing frozen water or gel material in cold climates

  • Circulating tanks, re-boilers, de-ethynizer and de-stabilizer towers

  • Hydro-blasting and jetting for cleaning coolers and compressors

Chemical Cleaning Units

Primarily used in oil & gas plants and refineries as well as single gas well facilities, Chemical Cleaning Units are used for turnarounds and maintenance. With the heater, centrifugal pumps and holding tanks, this unit is designed to circulate hot water and mix chemicals. The product is then pumped through vessels, exchangers and various plant piping to clean soot, scale and other forms of buildup, increasing the efficiency of that particular system.

Some of the operations these units are known for are:

  • Removing asphaltenes in piping

  • Heat exchanger or re-boiler cleaning

  • Vessel cleaning, such as dehydrator, de-stabilizer or de-ethanizer towers

  • Tank cleaning

Pressure Units

Pressure units (also known as pressure trucks, pump trucks or kill units) are usually truck mounted. However, trailer or skid mounted pressure units are not uncommon. These units usually have a high pressure pump, load pump and product tank at a minimum. Based on the operation that the unit is expected to perform and volumes/pressures required, customers can determine the right type of unit for the job. These units can be used for a variety of different operations, such as:

  • Pressure test Contractors’ lubricators, BOP’s and/or pumplines as a third party independent.

  • Pressure test downhole tubulars.

  • Pressure up on SCSSV’s to equalize prior to opening.

  • To Kill wells for workovers, securement or abandonment.

  • Perform hydro-tests on pipe spools, new pipeline installation or surface production facilities.

  • Hold back pressure on annulus (casing) during well fracurization.

  • Pump freeze protect fluid or methanol during cold weather

  • Inject chemicals such as inhibitors or dewaxers

  • And much more!

Heating Units

Heating units (also known as heater treaters or thermal fluid heaters) can be skid, trailer or truck mounted. These units are made to heat mainly water and oil, however we have had customers heat many other fluids as well. All of our heaters are diesel-fired with low pressure support pumps that circulate fluid through the unit. With the option to operate the units hydraulically or electrically, there are many customizations for clients to choose from.

Some of the applications our customers have used heating units for are:

  • Heating water for fracs-tanks, ponds/c-rings

  • Heating production tanks-separating oil & water

  • Pre-heating swimming pools

  • Providing hot water for sale

  • Heating railcars

  • And much more!
